I love working at Claire’s Accessories because, although we may get grouchy customers who demand their money back or tut, rolling their eyes, when I tell them how much ear piercing is, I still get to dress up like an idiot almost everyday, if my heart so desires. I can become a bumblebee, a ladybird, or even a butterfly. Witches, ghouls, zombies and skeletons during Halloween season you can see aplenty if you peep into the doors of your nearest Claire’s Accessories.
Right now, it is prom season. And last week I got to look like this:
Is the pink a little bit startling?
My little sister is in her last year of secondary school and she’s picked out her dress, what her hair will look like – she’s even going to, dare I say it, wear a little makeup! On Monday, I took the opportunity of having the day off University and took her out shopping to get some little bits for her big day. We spent the whole day milling around shops to get her some shoes, accessories and a shawl to match her dress. She begrudgingly tried on every pair of shoes I picked out, hardly even bothering to look at herself in the mirror when she tried on the shawls/cardigans, and finally we came back around to one of the first shops we went in – and bought her the perfect shoes.
We dressed her up in her fetching 1920s-esque prom wear and took LOADS of photos. She usually never even bothers washing her hair, so to see her like this was enough to bring tears to my dad’s eyes. She even let me style her hair, despite me burning her ear so much that it has actually started to peel a few days afterwards.
She’s a good girl really, and although this look isn’t your average billowing, pretty princess ball gown type of prom dress she is very happy. It has real 1920’s kind of tassles and is surprisingly heavy. It will look so beautiful when she gets all dancing in it.
I think it’s safe to say, I am a very proud big sister right now. I just wish she would be more girly all the time!
